Fashion as Photography

Catalogues use ghost mannequins.
William Talbot invented negative photography, and the fixing process.
Virginia Oldini, 1856- sold books with 288 photographs, first fashion magazine...
She seeked to create her life story in photography.
Improvements in half-tone printing allowed the age of the fashion magazine to start in the late 19th with a huge explosion in the early 20th.
This included pioneer: Pual Poiret, who ispired a new freedom from corsets.
Photographers like Steichen started the high fashion trends and a focus on material over popular beauty.
 
-Vogue vs Harpers Bazaar, both leaders in fahsion photography in the 20's and 30's 
-Environmetal photography became a popular way to show off wealth. 
-Lee Miller 1907 till 1977 works as a war photography in WW2 he moved to Paris in 1929 ans got involved with surrealist movement with Man Ray. 
-Louise Dahl Wolfe, from 1939 to 58. Takes photographs that compare statues to the human body.
-Panorama of Paris in 53 by Suzy Parker was an early adoption of colour film. 
-Bailey takes popular culture of fashion and turns it into fine art somehow. (1938)   
-Tina Turner 71 photograph shows the switch to catch people in an emotional state instead of a posed state.
-In the 90's fashion became grunge with the onset of post-modernism and photoshop editing skills.
